What the experts say

“Increasingly the ‘trend’ for interiors is personalisation and for people to be a bit bolder or have more fun with their interiors. We’re seeing more colour and texture used than ever before – across every material from coloured or timber joinery, to more patterned and colourful tiles, painted feature walls (or whole rooms) and even window furnishings too.
If you don’t want to embrace colour, you can still be bolder with your choices by playing with varying shades and introducing more texture.

In Australia, there’s been a shift towards warmer and earthier materials. After years of blacks, whites and greys dominating, we’re starting to see a new appreciation for brown tones. Even walnut timbers are coming back strongly over blond oaks.

The most important thing to consider when renovating is ‘the whole picture’. Often we do renovations in stages or if it’s your first time renovating, it can be hard to appreciate how it will all come together at the end. Take the time to develop a mood board that represents how you want your finished space to look and feel. It will help you to create a cohesive home, to make some of those ‘bolder’ choices (because if it works well on a small scale of a mood board, it’s likely to work well on the larger scale of your home). You’ll also find having a mood board as a reference will make all those other decisions easier, especially sourcing materials more info about mood boards here

“Trends come and go, instead, create your own trend and decorate your home in a way that makes you and your family feel good. If it looks good to you and takes your house to a home, you’ve nailed the trend!

The most important thing to remember when renovating a house is to make the right choices!! While that may seem like overwhelming advice, doing the research into your renovation from what and how to who and when will not only bring you the results you are after but lessen the stress along the way. Bonus tip, don’t forget your contingency budget! Just about every renovation will have a financial blowout, counteract the stress and surprise, but having at least a 20% buffer to allow you the space to make the necessary decisions to ensure the renovation is right.”
